Welcome to the homepage of the Feral Flyers Model Aero Club or FFMAC for short. Located on picturesque Mitchells Island in the mouth of the Manning River, just 5 kilometres north of the seaside hamlet of Old Bar and 15 kilometres east of Taree, N.S.W, the FFMAC flying field is ideally suited to powered and non-powered flight, to remote-control and control-line, and to fixed wing, drones and helicopters!
FFMAC operates under the N.S.W Fair Trading Registry of Co-operatives & Associations, which regulates incorporated associations registered under the Associations Incorporation Act of 2009. Our parent body, Aeromodellers N.S.W arranges our comprehensive insurance, which is mandatory for flying members and visitors with accreditation to fly.
The FFMAC has a knowledgeable, friendly, and active membership from a diverse range of backgrounds who share a common passion for flying model aircraft in a relaxed and social setting. Beginners and seasoned pro’s alike are most welcome to join. MAAA qualified instructors are available to assist the beginner gain their wings with powered and non-powered fixed wing. In addition to flight training, helpful and friendly advice is always available from our experienced members in the selection of equipment and aircraft construction.
It’s strongly advised that any new members or interested parties have a chat with existing members before purchasing any radio equipment, engine or kits to avoid frustration and unnecessary expense.
The club flying field is approximately 200 metres long, flat and clear of obstructions on the approaches. The facilities include a communal shed for members with a BAR-B-Q facilities and parking close to the field. Periodic events with others regional clubs are always well attended.
Flying days are every Sunday and Wednesday with the exception of Christmas day and Good Friday, flying can be arranged on others days with prior notices. At all times there must be at least two members present for flying to be permitted. This a strict safety requirement of the club.
FFMAC membership fees are reasonable and include the membership fees to MAAA and Aeromedellers N.S.W. Junior fees are half the senior rate. All fees include compulsory insurance. Proficient flyers belonging to other MAAA-affiliated clubs are most welcome but must show a current MAAA membership card. Members of other clubs who wish to fly with the Feral Flyers Model Aero Club on a semi-permanent basis must take out an Associate membership and hold a current MAAA membership card.
All levels of membership receive a copy of the club’s popular twice-yearly newsletter, containing articles and stories on a range of club and flight-related topics. Contact us to inquire about the details and benefits of membership, and the current rates.
